It’s funny, I thought about you as I wrote this, mainly because I knew you were a windows phone guy. My *only* experience with Windows Phone is from setting one up at my last job in Ohio. I played with it for a few hours, and it was actually a pretty cool device. Since I’m primarily a Mac user at home, I’ll admit that I haven’t spent much time looking in to Windows Phones. I do think the user interface is intriguing, it’s at least a different way of handling a smart phone compared to iOS or Android. I feel like that I got “pure Android” experience with the Nexus S, since it was stock Android when I got it, and then stock ICS when I upgraded, and I just didn’t really find it to be as pleasant to use as iOS. I’ll have to spend some more hands-on time with Windows Phone, because it’s probably the only smartphone OS I have any interest in checking out at this point. I find that Android is better suited to a tablet than a phone.

Word Dan,
My current phone is a Samsung Focus Windows “Mango” 7.5 OS. It is my first smart phone. It has done everything I’ve asked since the Mango update. Being something of an MS fanboi I adopted this ecosystem since it tries to strike a balance between the walled garden of Apple and the fully open Android compatible market (there really isn’t a pure android since each carrier makes its own mods). I am happy with the UI, which anyone with an up to date Xbox should now be familiar with, and I’ve never thought to myself “geez, I wish this thing would go faster”. I can use Netflix, play angry birds (and get xbox achievements), plus I can remote control my xbox. It has robust office cloud integration and Native Word and Excel. I realize it doesn’t have the “hip-factor” of a device with a half eaten fruit on it, but it certainly gets the job done. When my two years is up in November, I’m looking at likely the Lumina 900.

Yes, that is a very unfortunate reading of this quote. I think it captures, quite elegantly, the wonder and awe we should feel at our very existence. We are so lucky to be able to spend even the briefest moment aware, because the alternative is to have never existed at all.

Unfortunately too many people see that quote and misunderstand it completely, thinking he’s taking some kind of “pro-life” stance when it isn’t even about that issue at all, either way.

I don’t know you but my pal Misty told me to read this post, and I am just crushed. I have health issues and have delt with many completely uncaring doctors and nurses (and a few good ones) and it just hurts so bad to see others having to deal with that. I am so sorry for your loss. My thoughts are with you.

Thanks, Carrie… I’m really doing OK, for the most part each day is getting better (besides the occasional day when I feel really down). I think having the puppy and planning for this roadtrip have really helped keep me balanced.

Note: Minimum wage in the city is 11.00/hr. There is free basic healthcare. It’s mandatory for your employer to at least give you access to funds through an HSA. The transportation system is awesome (most of the time). It’s a huge biking city, also. The weather is never terrible. Etc., etc., etc. I could name you more awesome things (like our former Mayor’s hair- he’s the Lt. Governor now), if you want.
